Kawafuru Onsen Yamagatakan
Yamanashi Prefecture/Kawaura OnsenAn accommodation where you can enjoy the natural flow of Onsen at Kawahora Onsen, established under Shingen's command.
The only Property at Kawahora Onsen, established under the orders of Takeda Shingen. Its two hot spring sources provide 1,250 liters per minute and are known as "Shingen's Hidden Onsen." All four baths feature natural free-flowing spring water and the Property is certified by the Association for Preserving Japan’s Onsen Heritage.
I chose this Accommodation because I was drawn to the phrase “100% free-flowing natural hot spring,” and it truly lived up to the promise—it was a wonderful place to stay. The Onsen had only a mild mineral scent, yet the water felt silky and very pleasant. Because it’s on the cooler side, you can soak slowly without getting overheated, which is another great point. Most impressive of all, even the shower water was Onsen water—remarkable. The spring yield must be abundant. I’ve stayed at many hot springs over the years, but in terms of water quality, views, and Facility offerings, I genuinely think this is an outstanding Onsen. If I had to mention one thing, it would be helpful if drinking water were available in the resting area for those times when you end up soaking a bit too long. The Facility has the atmosphere of a traditional Ryokan, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel somewhat old-fashioned—but rather than being a negative, I appreciated how they value what’s old while making up for any shortcomings with warm hospitality and service. The Room was thoroughly cleaned and felt very fresh; even the tatami mats were comfortable. The generous meals made with local ingredients were also delicious. Despite being in a landlocked prefecture, the sashimi was excellent—a pleasant surprise. My only regret is that there was so much food that I couldn’t finish everything. Finally, thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality during our stay. We visited to celebrate my father’s birthday; when I mentioned this at the time of Reservation, we received a lovely extra service at dinner on the day. Thanks as well for upgrading our Room—we were able to relax comfortably in a spacious setting. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Onsen, meals, and hospitality—and would love to visit again.
炭水化物大好き子 6/14/2026My spouse and I stayed here to celebrate our 60th birthdays, and even though she usually doesn’t say things like this, she was truly moved and said, “So this is what real free-flowing natural hot spring water is!”I also made our son come along for the first time in four years, and it seems he was able to refresh and unwind quite a bit.Dinner was delicious as expected, so I won’t dwell on it—but breakfast is outstanding. You won’t find the usual staples like grilled salmon, natto, or Onsen eggs. Instead, they focus on local ingredients. It’s wonderful that you can also choose Onsen rice porridge. This is a prestigious Onsen Accommodation where His Majesty the Emperor once stayed as a child. We’ll live long and come back again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

In spring, the fresh greenery of the trees, and in autumn, the mountains covered in vibrant autumn leaves, the famous Koshu river "Fuefuki" is located upstream. Known as "Shingen's Hidden Hot Spring" since the Sengoku period, Eiroku era, it has been cherished by many. From the building overlooking the valley, you can view the Kai mountains, and inside, the traditional Japanese-style Facilities warmly welcome all guests.

The Onsen, with a water flow of 1,250 liters per minute, features "Seseragi no Yu" and a paid private open-air bath offering a panoramic view of the Fuefuki River, along with numerous open-air baths, each with its own unique charm. Our cuisine is the "Taste of Home," prepared with care using freshly harvested mountain vegetables, river fish, Kai beef, simmered abalone, and more. With a history of 500 years, our Facility is meticulously maintained, and we warmly await your visit with heartfelt hospitality.

The spacious and calming guest rooms are traditional Japanese-style.

Our chefs meticulously craft dishes using seasonal local ingredients with great care and attention. Please enjoy these heartfelt culinary creations.
