Enjoy a stay in a historic setting with a traditional Japanese garden, and savor chef-selected cuisine.

"Tsubonakagawa" is a relocated and restored traditional Japanese inn originally known as "Nakagawa," which was dismantled in 1983 from its location in Akasaka, Tokyo. The first "Nakagawa" was built in 1927 but was demolished during wartime evacuations. The current structure was rebuilt in August 1951 and served as a venue for military, financial, and political dignitaries until 1982. Preserving as much of the original authenticity as possible, we have carefully restored the building to allow guests to experience its historical essence firsthand. The front garden is the only pure Japanese garden designed by Zenko Adachi, founder of the Adachi Museum of Art. This historic estate with its unique stories is available for exclusive rental as part of Okudogo Ichiyu no Mori Royal Suite accommodations.

Tsubonakagawa Renovation Concept

We prioritize the preservation of regional cultural facilities, restoring their former glory through modern methods and techniques while ensuring their significance and purpose are passed down to future generations. Our mission includes not only showcasing Japanese architecture, design, and culture but also offering an immersive experience for visitors from around the world. Please note that in our effort to preserve authenticity as it was in the past, you may experience certain discomforts unique to traditional Japanese wooden architecture, such as drafts, limited soundproofing, or insulation issues. We appreciate your understanding. As this is a historically significant building, there may be signs of wear or aging over time. Additionally, due to layout constraints, some areas such as washrooms or dressing spaces may not have smooth movement flow. Please also note that this facility is not barrier-free accessible; we kindly ask for your understanding regarding these limitations.
