Experience Japanese hospitality that embodies refined aesthetics alongside modern services, and enjoy a special time in a guest room with a private open-air bath.

With over a century of history, Hotel Mukaitaki has been reborn, offering the finest relaxation, a beautifully comfortable space worthy of welcoming distinguished guests, and cuisine crafted with the utmost care and luxury. There are just nine Rooms, allowing us to provide attentive, refined service exclusively for a limited number of guests. Long cherished as a therapeutic hot-spring retreat, the waters of Tsuchiyu Onsen leave your skin soft, smooth, and deeply moisturized. From the Onsen, you can savor the Arakawa mountain stream right before you with all five senses. Please enjoy exquisite dishes prepared by our chef in a comfortable setting, using only the finest ingredients selected from Fukushima and The whole country. For dinner, choose either French or Japanese cuisine; different selections within the same party are also available.

Reviews 3th placeReview Ranking in Tohoku
  • With no real knowledge of Tsuchiyu Onsen—I'd heard the name but that was about it—we visited as a group of three with my elderly parents, relying on the great Reviews. We parked and entered into the 5th-floor lobby. The beauty of the parquet woodwork and the lush green gorge took our breath away. We checked in while enjoying welcome drinks on the sofa. Our Room on the 3rd floor was just as modern as in the photos and came with a cypress open-air bath. Before dinner, we used the large public bath on the 1st floor. The water was amazing!!A faint sulfur scent and silky water that seemed to cling to your skin. My parents were impressed too, saying it was the best Onsen water they’d ever experienced. Apparently even the shower water is from the Onsen—I’d never seen that before, so I was surprised. We went to the public bath three times during our one-night stay, and only ran into another guest once (just one person). It felt almost private, which made it even better.Dinner was served in a private room on the 4th floor. We chose Japanese cuisine. The explanations were very careful and easy to understand, and everything—from taste to presentation (including the tableware)—was beautiful; you could really feel the chef’s attention to detail. The handwritten menu also had a wonderful charm.Breakfast was also Japanese cuisine, and we were just as satisfied as we were at dinner. This trip also celebrated my mother’s birthday and mine, so we booked an Anniversary Plan. After dinner they brought out a cake, but we were too full to eat it, so they delivered it to our Room instead. After relaxing in the Onsen for a bit, we still felt full—but said “Since it’s here anyway, let’s finish it tonight,” made some coffee...and ended up eating it all! It really was delicious!!We were also happy with the parquet coaster gift—thank you very much.To all of your staff: thank you for taking such great care of us. We truly appreciate all your kindness. We will definitely come again while my parents are still healthy!

  • We chose French cuisine for dinner and a Western-style breakfast. I was intrigued because it’s rare to find a Western-style breakfast at a mountain Onsen Ryokan. In the end, I was impressed by the high quality of both. The French dinner, especially the sauces, was excellent, and it paired beautifully with the wines, keeping us satisfied through to the last course. For breakfast, we enjoyed freshly baked homemade croissants served piping hot—crispy and fragrant with butter. It was a wonderful Accommodation.

A space crafted with traditional Kumiko woodwork techniques

“Kumiko” is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique in which thin wooden pieces are assembled into geometric patterns without using nails. Enjoy the light filtering through Kumiko panels handcrafted to depict Fukushima’s beautiful seasonal landscapes, along with the refreshing views of the valley. You can find them throughout the property, including the front lobby, information areas on each floor, guest rooms, and the large public bath.
