Shirakawa Onsen Hanashoan

This was truly the best Onsen Accommodation.Since there are only a few guest Rooms, I assumed the large public bath would be small, but I was surprised that the open-air bath was much larger than I imagined.With only 9 Rooms, it was often empty, so I could soak and relax at my own pace.As for the Room, the garden was absolutely amazing.I wished I could have spent all day on the veranda.The in-room bath felt more like a semi open-air bath than an indoor one; with its large windows, it really felt like an open-air bath. It’s hard to imagine anything topping this.The meals weren’t overly filling, and you could tell each dish was carefully prepared.For dinner, I expected to have the Akaushi lava-grilled beef shown on your website, but instead we were served Akaushi roast beef.It was delicious so I’m happy with it, but I had been looking forward to grilling it myself and having it served like a steak—so maybe next time!I’ll do my best so I can come back again (lol).

We visited Kumamoto for a family trip during Golden Week 2026. We traveled for three nights, and for the first night we stayed at Shirakawa Onsen Kashoan. In a word, it is a wonderful Accommodation. The Facilities are spotless, each dinner and breakfast is prepared with great care, and above all, the staff’s hospitality was exceptional—our whole family was truly satisfied with our stay. We travel often, but this is an Accommodation that made me want to write a Review for the first time in quite a while. I’d like to share a few memorable photos.The first day was sunny, but the next day it rained. Even so, the Accommodation in the rain had a different atmosphere from a clear day and felt deeply relaxing.I’m posting only a few photos of the meals, but every dish was carefully made; both presentation and flavor were excellent, and we enjoyed them along with delicious drinks.This time we couldn’t make it to Takachiho Gorge because it was during Golden Week, so when we visit Kyushu again, this is an Accommodation we would love to stay at once more.
