An Accommodation where the sake and cuisine of Japan’s snowy regions come together
A pairing-focused Accommodation curated by owner Yuichi Yamagishi, a sake expert and sommelier. Rooted in the climate and ingredients of Matsunoyama, Niigata, our cuisine is crafted using French and Italian techniques and enjoyed in harmony with carefully selected drinks. Whether you love drinks, are new to them, or want to learn more, we offer you a truly special time.
I stayed at another Accommodation in the same group not long ago, but this was my first return to Tamakiya in 10 years. Last time, discovering Abe Shuzo through the sake pairing was a real highlight, so I did it again this time. Since it was a special occasion, I decided to pay the extra fee and choose the optional premium sake course. It more than lived up to expectations—I truly enjoyed a wide range of excellent sakes, including some with a playful twist. The sommelier’s stories were fascinating, and I wished I could have listened even longer. I was traveling solo, but the staff were consistently courteous and attentive, no different from how they treated larger groups, which I really appreciated. The food was also outstanding: a course featuring plenty of local Niigata ingredients, with every dish delicious from appetizers to dessert. Next time, I’d love to stay in midwinter when there’s deep snow.
楽々歩き 6/17/2026I stayed here to enjoy the pairing of Snow Country cuisine and sake. Each dish was carefully prepared, allowing the quality of the ingredients to truly shine. What impressed me most was the sake pairing: the selections served with each course were perfectly matched, and I fully enjoyed how the flavors evolved and how interesting each combination was. I also discovered labels I would not normally choose for myself, which made it a wonderful experience. If you enjoy alcohol, this is something I would highly recommend—it made mealtime feel even more special.I also had plenty of time to relax in the Onsen, making this a refreshing stay both physically and mentally.

Sake
Savor the perfect marriage of sake and cuisine, then unwind into the night in the Onsen. Rooted in the climate and ingredients of Matsunoyama, Niigata, our dishes are crafted using French and Italian techniques and enjoyed with pairings of sake or wine. Our snow-country cuisine brings out the unique character of each drink as you taste the richness of the land. Together with Matsunoyama Onsen—one of Japan’s three great medicinal hot springs—enjoy a stay that relaxes both body and mind.

Accommodation with Free-Flowing Hot Spring Water
Matsunoyama Onsen, one of Japan’s three renowned medicinal hot springs. This secluded Onsen in Matsunoyama, ranked alongside Arima and Kusatsu, features a calcium-sodium chloride spring with source water at around 90°C. With mineral content about 15 times the therapeutic hot spring standard and a seawater-like salinity, this “hot” Onsen is known for excellent heat-retention and moisturizing benefits. The large public bath, open-air bath, and in-room open-air baths are all free-flowing directly from the source.

Though this is a small Accommodation with only 8 Rooms, each one has its own unique character. All Rooms with an open-air bath are equipped with an indoor shower booth, so you can warm up before enjoying a snow-viewing bath. There are two Rooms without a private bath; please relax and enjoy the large public bath at your leisure.

From the check-in counter offering a welcome drink to the post-bath lounge, we provide small complimentary areas unique to our intimate Accommodation—such as a spot where you can enjoy free sake selected at the owner’s whim, and a space where you can create your own original herbal tea.
