Stay in a historic building registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property and experience the past and present of Osaka.

A serviced apartment that makes use of the early Showa-era historic atmosphere of the Takashimaya East Annex, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, together with the appeal of the Citadines brand. The Art Deco exterior creates a glamorous impression, while the distinctive entrance preserves original historic details and cobblestones on the first floor. The high-ceilinged lobby and each guest Room also make full use of the building’s unique character. Large windows and distinctive columns in your Room let you feel close to history, while a modern design with warm wood tones provides a relaxing stay.

  • I was able to relax and enjoy a calm atmosphere. I was satisfied with the breakfast, and the bread was delicious; I could enjoy my meal in a peaceful setting. I would like to stay here again.

  • Staying in a department store was a childhood dream come true. The well-preserved historic elements and the beautifully renovated areas were in harmony, with interiors that evoked shopping and bespoke tailoring. The washing machine and microwave had instructions only online, which was a bit hard to understand and left me slightly confused, but it was refreshing to try overseas-made appliances I had never used before. My Room had only one window and it did not open, so I felt a little uneasy when thinking about emergencies. I understand it may be difficult for safety reasons, but I wish the window could open even just a little. The staff were kind and attentive. With many international staff and guests along with the retro interior, it felt like staying in a Hotel from an old movie. The price is reasonable as well, so I would like to stay again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Exterior

Citadines Namba Osaka opened on January 18, 2020.

The building was constructed in the early Showa era as Matsuzakaya Osaka and was one of Japan’s largest department stores before World War II. In 1968, it became Takashimaya Higashi Annex. Throughout the building, historic architectural styles are enhanced with Art Deco decorative details. The 11-arch arcade stretching along Sakaisuji—once Osaka’s central commercial district—along with the elevator hall and grand staircase, still conveys the elegance of classic department store architecture today. In 2020, it reopened after renovation as a mixed-use complex featuring offices, the Takashimaya Archives Museum, and newly added serviced apartments and a food hall.

Grand Staircase & Elevator Lobby

The grand staircases to the north and south are designed with decorative lighting on the newel posts, while the elevators are framed in black marble and accented with white bronze in the transoms and column ornaments. Both the grand staircases and the elevator hall feature extensive use of yellow marble, creating a luxurious atmosphere.

Arcade

An arcade stretching approximately 67 meters along Sakaisuji Street.

It spans two stories and extends approximately 67 m along Sakaisuji Street. Inside, a row of finely decorated display windows lines the space; the columns and beams are clad in black marble, and the floor is finished in three-color terrazzo, creating a magnificent arcade walkway.

Exterior

11-Arch Arcade

From the first to the second floor, the lower section features a row of 11 arches, with terracotta sculptures set into the semicircular panels, richly decorating the Sakaisuji-facing side.
