Yame, Japan’s leading gyokuro-producing region. Stay at a decentralized Hotel scattered among traditional earthen-walled storehouses, and discover a new world of Japanese tea.

An extraordinary escape about 60 minutes by car from Fukuoka Airport and Hakata Station. Set in a nationally designated Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, “Kaze no Yamefukushima” is a dispersed Hotel created by minimally restoring and enhancing the comfort of Kita-ya’s sake brewery and tea shop, both with nearly 200 years of history. Spend a soothing moment in spaces where you can feel the passage of time. During your stay, enjoy experiences unique to Yame: a welcome with sencha and tea sweets, creative cuisine featuring Yame tea with thoughtful tea pairings, and ochazuke to start your morning. As Japan’s leading gyokuro-producing region, Yame offers a fresh way to enjoy tea from arrival to departure. To make your trip even more fulfilling, our local concierge will suggest ways to spend your time that can only be experienced here. Please feel free to ask about enjoying nearby sights or celebrating a special birthday or anniversary with family, as a couple, or with your partner. Savor timeless moments at our “TEA&SAKE HOTEL,” where you can enjoy both tea and sake experiences.

    くまの旅行 3/4/2026
  • I love the NIPPONIA concept, and I visit each time with excitement for a stay in comfortable guest rooms that feel steeped in history, along with delicious meals. This time in Yame Merchant Town, I finally reached my 10th NIPPONIA.From the welcome service of delicious gyokuro at check-in, to tea leaves and a tea scoop from the long-established Konomi-en prepared in the room, a rare tea incense burner, and matcha that I whisked myself before breakfast, I was soothed by hospitality unique to Yame as a renowned tea region. In addition to tea, I also thoroughly enjoyed locally sourced French cuisine for dinner paired with Yame sake. The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary Yame sake, and there was even sake for use as a bath additive (and they said it’s safe to drink as-is). Once again, I was completely satisfied with a stay that let me savor the charms of Yame at leisure.Near the Accommodation there were also an exchange center where they kindly taught us how to brew gyokuro properly and long-established tea shops. Making use of the relaxed 12:00 checkout time the next morning, I took a casual walk to slowly admire the old streetscape and enjoy such luxurious moments immersed in Yame’s culture.I would love to return if I have the chance.
