I felt it was a classic, charming old Japanese Hotel. The building’s presence, the restaurant, the guest rooms, and the interior were all wonderful. I stayed on a Plan with breakfast and dinner included. The food was just as delicious as what you’d find at Hotels in Tokyo, and they kindly accommodated my dietary dislikes so I could fully enjoy the meals. All of the staff provided excellent service, and I felt everything throughout my stay was great.I would love to stay again. Thank you very much.
m-o-o 8/5/2026I’ve been visiting Karuizawa since I was young. Each time, I told myself I would stay here once I became an adult. The staff were very kind, and the Hotel was wonderful—I had a truly comfortable stay. They even have a thoughtful mailbox where you can post a letter to your future self or someone important to be delivered in 10 years, which made me want to come back and stay again in 10 years. Thank you very much.

In 1886, a Canadian missionary who visited this area was captivated by the beautiful and abundant nature of Karuizawa and built the first villa here. Thanks to the introduction by this missionary, Alexander Croft Shaw, the summer retreat "Karuizawa" became widely known, and today it has developed into one of Japan's premier resort destinations, not only as a summer retreat but also as a place to relax throughout the four seasons. We would like to introduce you to spots where you can enjoy the unique relaxation time that Karuizawa offers, through its history, culture, scenery, and nature.
Built by Japanese hands during the era of modernization, inspired by the old Mikasa Hotel, an important cultural property of pure Western architecture, Otowa no Mori was born in 1982 in the quiet forest of old Karuizawa. A serene classical space and the high hospitality of hotel staff cultivated over the years. Even though it's your first visit, it feels somehow nostalgic. Enjoy a relaxing stay at Otowa no Mori.
Starting with vegetables sourced directly from local farmers, we abundantly use carefully selected seasonal ingredients from Shinshu to create Otowa Cuisine. The dishes, known as 'Otowa of Food,' sometimes surprise you with unconventional ingredient combinations. Please feel free to visit the restaurant 'Katsurahime' for French cuisine or the hidden 'Otowatei' for Japanese cuisine and charcoal-grilled skewers, not only on special occasions but also in your daily life.
