Two-Group-Per-Day Traditional Japanese House Hotel - Ubutsuna no Sato TOMIMOTO

Nara Prefecture/Ando Town

A hidden accommodation renovated from the birthplace of Kenkichi Tomimoto, a Living National Treasure who shaped modern ceramics.

Located near Horyu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, “Ubusuna no Sato” is a place where you can relax and experience the timeless history and nature of Yamato with all five senses. This auberge takes “body-friendly cuisine” as its theme and is proud to offer an authentic Japanese kaiseki course featuring an abundance of carefully selected fresh local ingredients from Nara.

  • On my previous trip I stayed here with friends, but this time I had the pleasure of staying with my elderly mother to celebrate her 88th birthday.Because she has difficulty walking, I was a little worried about accessibility, but you kindly assisted us in every situation and we were able to stay comfortably.Although it rained unfortunately, we were able to relax and talk in our Room, and also enjoy a pottery painting experience, making it a truly happy time. The meals were also very delicious. Not only the Akaushi beef and fish, but the Yamato vegetables were wonderful as well. We could also feel the scenery of Nara through the tableware, and the seasonal hydrangeas painted on it delighted us visually too.On our way to the dining area, we found a large snail.Seeing my mother smile happily like a child left a strong impression on me, and it made me realize again that choosing Ubusuna no Sato for this trip was the right decision.Thank you very much for giving us such a happy time.I’m already looking forward to receiving the plate we painted.

  • We stayed in the “Nisshin” Room. The weeping cherry blossoms had already fallen, but we were able to enjoy the well-maintained Room and garden. The meals were also very delicious. It was a wonderful trip, and we felt the warm hospitality of the head chef and all the staff. Next time, we would like to visit with our parents.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Room
Room

A private retreat with just two guest Rooms. To help you forget the rush of everyday life and unwind in your Room, we have carefully selected the bedding and furnishings to create a soothing space. Kenji Tomimoto called this place where he was born “Ubusuna,” cherishing it as his origin. In unhurried time, immerse yourself in the timeless history and nature of Yamato with all five senses, and let your thoughts drift toward the future. That is “Ubusuna no Sato TOMIMOTO.”

Gofuu-Juuu (Grand Hall Restaurant)
Restaurant “Gofuu Juu”

A gentle wind every five days and rain every ten days—an expression describing a calm, steady climate ideal for farming. We, too, never forget our gratitude for nature’s abundant blessings, and we entrust them all to our cuisine. Horyu-ji Temple, in the neighboring town of Ando, was a familiar presence to Kenkichi Tomimoto; he grew up surrounded by its venerable Buddhist statues and treasures dating back to the era of Prince Shotoku. When renovating this building, we received a calligraphy piece reading “Gofu Juu” from Chief Abbot Genmyo Ono of Horyu-ji Temple, which inspired us to name our restaurant “Gofu Juu.”

This restaurant is exclusively for Accommodation guests. At our face-to-face counter kitchen in a renovated kura storehouse, you can enjoy dishes prepared with plenty of fresh local vegetables and seasonal ingredients while experiencing the techniques of Japanese cuisine, recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

An Accommodation where you can experience Yamato’s history and Living National Treasure Kenkichi Tomimoto. A restaurant featuring plenty of locally sourced ingredients. A ceramics studio and gallery that inspire new creativity... Enjoy the history and culture of Ando and Ikaruga, and take time to reflect in a lush green setting.
