In a place where you can witness the most beautiful moon in Japan, we envisioned creating a hidden retreat, and that dream led us to the serene forest of Kurokawa Onsen. "Kurokawa Onsen Gokoro Tsukikouju" is a Property where you can enjoy moonlight bathing in an open-air Onsen, while gazing at the moon shining in the sky. On a vast 4,500-tsubo estate, there are only eight villas. Each Room is uniquely designed and decorated, filled with delightful surprises. With the sound of the wind through the forest and the chirping of birds as your background music, surround yourself with only what you love and what is delicious, and indulge in the comfort of letting time flow naturally. This is a Property that promises such luxurious moments for adults.

  • Enjoy a quiet, luxurious stay in our new wing, “Tamawa.”

    We stayed in the new building at Gekkouju Kurokawa. As it was a brand-new Room, the entire guest room felt special, and everything—the spaciousness, quiet atmosphere, Onsen, and sauna—was wonderfully luxurious. We were able to forget about everyday life and truly relax.In particular, being able to enjoy the Onsen and sauna whenever we wanted without leaving the Room was incredibly appealing. During our stay, it felt like we spent almost all our waking hours either in the Onsen or the sauna.Each dish was carefully prepared and enjoyable both visually and in taste. Being able to take our time over dinner in a calm setting also became a very fond memory.Gekkouju is an Accommodation where not only the building, Rooms, and Onsen are outstanding—the warmth of the staff is what leaves the strongest impression.There are many luxury Onsen Accommodations and luxury Hotels, but what truly makes you want to come back is not just the Facility—it’s also the thoughtful hospitality of those who welcome you.This stay once again offered Gekkouju’s signature tranquility and indulgence, along with warm hospitality. It was an extremely satisfying visit.We would love to return as a couple.

  • Wonderful! We’ll definitely be back.

    We stayed at this Accommodation and were satisfied with everything. The luxurious L-shaped bath that extends from the Room to the outside is exceptional. The food, in particular, is delicious! If I may make one request: when moving guests’ private cars, please do not change the air-conditioning settings. When I got back into my car, the temperature was set to LO with the fan on full blast and it was roaring. Thank you for your understanding.\nI look forward to visiting again.

In addition to the indoor and open-air baths in each Room, we also offer an open-air bath at the mountaintop within the premises, where you can enjoy the scenery of Kurokawa. With the outer rim of Mount Aso to the south and the majestic mountains of Oguni to the north, this is a 360° open-air bath with natural hot spring water. The highlight is at night, where you can immerse yourself in the blissful moment under a sky full of stars and the radiant moonlight in the clear air. This is a luxurious open-air bath surrounded by Japan's four seasons and a sparkling starry sky.

  • [Updated August 14] Operating Status and Transportation Access for Facilities in the Kurokawa Onsen Area Following the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake

    We extend our heartfelt sympathies to everyone affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake. We sincerely pray for a swift recovery and rebuilding.

    [Operating Status]
    Following the earthquake, we inspected our buildings, Facility, and utilities. At this time, no damage has been confirmed that would significantly affect stays or in-house services. The following three Accommodations are operating as usual.

    - Gekkouju Kurokawa
    - Yukyo no Hibiki Yusai
    - Yusai Annex

    [For Guests Arriving by Car]

    From Fukuoka / Saga:
    You can reach Kurokawa Onsen via Dazaifu IC, Tosu JCT, the Oita Expressway, Hita IC, and Route 212.

    From Oita / Beppu / Yufuin:
    From Oita/Beppu: via the Oita Expressway (Kokonoe IC).
    From Yufuin: via the Yamanami Highway toward Senomoto.

    From Kumamoto / Aso Kumamoto Airport:
    Head toward Aso and travel via Milk Road (Prefectural Route 339).

    From Miyazaki:
    The closure between Matsubase IC and Ebino IC on the Kyushu Expressway was lifted at 6:00 AM on August 14 and is now passable. However, two-way traffic control remains in effect between Miyahara SA and Yatsushiro IC.

    [Public Transportation]
    The Fukuoka–Kurokawa Onsen route resumed normal operations from August 4.
    Some services of the Kyushu Odan Bus (connecting Kumamoto, Kurokawa Onsen, Yufuin, and Beppu) will be suspended until August 31.

    Road and traffic conditions may change due to aftershocks, restoration work, weather conditions, etc. Please check the latest updates from NEXCO West Japan (NEXCO Nishinihon), JARTIC, Kyushu Sanko Bus, and other sources before departure.
