Utsukushigahara Onsen Kanaukan
Nagano Prefecture/Utsukushigahara OnsenEnjoy the beauty of architecture and gardens at a small Onsen Ryokan nestled in the foothills of Utsukushigahara Highland.
The main building, a three-story wooden structure originally built in 1928, underwent renovation along with the construction of a new bathhouse wing over the course of a year, and reopened in April 2020. While preserving the charm of the early Showa era, the space has been transformed into a more comfortable and atmospheric environment. With the concept of "Staying with Time," we have carefully crafted the Property using natural materials that age gracefully over time, aiming for simplicity and quality, and paying attention to every detail. Although there are no picturesque Onsen towns or breathtaking views, we believe you will feel the accumulation of time and the beauty of a traditional inn in the space that retains its historical essence. Additionally, the ever-changing scenery of the garden surrounding the building offers endless fascination. Time spent savoring the blessings of the countryside. Moments of release as you soak in the waters. Conversations with loved ones. And moments of stillness. We hope that a day spent at our Property will become an irreplaceable "moment in time" for you.
I made a Reservation without doing much research because it looked good, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The nostalgic charm of the Showa era is beautifully balanced with modern Facilities, making the stay extremely comfortable. All of the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming—the hospitality was outstanding. The meals were also delicious; even though I’m on a diet, I finished dinner and was completely full. Breakfast felt lighter (not small in portion), and perhaps because it was Japanese-style, my weight didn’t increase much, which was a relief. The private bath doesn’t require a Reservation—if it’s available, you can use it—so I enjoyed it twice without any hassle. Since the number of guests per day is limited, it was quiet with a calm, adult atmosphere, and I could truly relax. Thank you very much.
ゼットM 3/4/2026I stayed here to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The interior is free of anything unnecessary, embodying the "beauty of utility" from the Mingei movement. Every meal is prepared with care, and the beauty of the tableware is remarkable. Everything was simply perfect. I’ve become a devoted fan. Thank you very much, and I look forward to visiting again!

Introduction of the Accommodation

Time and stay
Kinyukan is a small Onsen Ryokan with only nine rooms, nestled in the foothills of the Utsukushigahara Highlands. Our wish is to preserve this three-story wooden Property, built in the early Showa era, for another 100 years. We value the use of natural materials that age gracefully over time, simplicity, and quality. You won't find a picturesque Onsen town or breathtaking views here. What we offer is a space imbued with the passage of time, the beauty of a traditional inn, and the ever-changing light and breeze in the garden surrounding the building. Here, you can savor the blessings of the satoyama, experience moments of release as you soak in the Onsen, share meaningful conversations with loved ones, and embrace moments of stillness. We hope that a day spent at our Property becomes an irreplaceable moment in time for you.
