We stayed in a Japanese-modern Room with an open-air bath.The Room had a calming design, and the open-air bath was truly the best.Hearing the sound of the river flowing was so relaxing, it was a bath we wanted to enjoy again and again.The irori cuisine felt quite filling for our elderly parents, but it was very delicious, and we enjoyed it with excitement.And Kiyoshi Yamashita’s mural is breathtaking. You’ll be deeply moved by its warmth, which instantly conveys how much he loved this place.Even after checkout, all the staff saw us off with smiles and waves, making our stay warm and welcoming until the very end.We would definitely like to stay again.
雪ひつじ 5/6/2026A very homey Onsen Accommodation overall. The bathhouse mural by Kiyoshi Yamashita has a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere, and together with the warmth of the Onsen it is truly soothing. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying in both portion size and taste. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

Introduction of the Accommodation
Tatsumi-kan, the property beloved by the artist Kiyoshi Yamashita.
There are two individuals who deeply loved Kamimaki Onsen: the "Naked General" Kiyoshi Yamashita and his mentor, Dr. Ryuzaburo Shikiba. In the 1950s, Kiyoshi visited our inn multiple times with his mentor, leaving behind numerous remarkable works created with collage, watercolor, and markers before his studies in France. The serene and nature-rich land of Kamimaki Onsen seemed to perfectly match Kiyoshi's simple and sincere personality. The large mural in our "Haniwa Bath," titled "Omine Swamp and Mount Tanigawa," is a unique masterpiece in Japan. Based on Kiyoshi's original collage, it was created using special glass in collaboration with Dr. Shikiba and art craftsman Mr. Tezuka. This work, completed with great passion despite Kiyoshi's declining eyesight, stands as one of his final masterpieces before his European studies. We hope you will enjoy and feel refreshed by Kiyoshi's heartfelt works, along with the memories of Kamimaki.
Kamimaki Onsen is a natural hot spring where water from the Tone River, melted from Mount Tanigawa, and rain or snow falling on the Sea of Japan side is warmed underground and emerges after approximately 17 years.
Warm your hands over the glowing charcoal fire and feel a sense of comfort. Enjoy casual irori-style dining with the warmth and nostalgia of irori seating or at simple wooden tables with a shichirin grill.
We offer Rooms primarily in a Japanese style so you can forget the daily hustle and spend your time as your heart desires. Please relax and enjoy your stay.
