We arrived late for check-in, and we really appreciated you adjusting the dinner time. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared, and everything was delicious. The building felt a bit old, but the Room had been renovated and was very comfortable. I didn’t realize the bath featured a mural by Kiyoshi Yamashita when I went in, but it became a wonderful memory.
還暦っ子 9/25/2026I stayed in a renovated Room with a sauna.The Room was spacious and comfortable.I’d like to visit again, so I’d like to point out a few things that concerned me.About the amenities in the Room:There were two single-use sets (osaji).At minimum, you use them twice for breakfast, right?It wasn’t enough for two people.When I called to request more, I was told it would be 500 yen per set,so I paid 1,000 yen.Since I wanted to enjoy the Onsen and sauna many times, I use lotion each time.In Rooms at a similar price range, it’s common to have proper branded products rather than single-use items,so this was disappointing.The “totonoi” chair for relaxing after the sauna smelled terrible and had sweat stains, so I couldn’t sit on it.The tiles around the shower also had mildew and smelled bad.There were lots of spider webs on the stone wall, and many dead insects fell down.If cleaning is done properly every day, I don’t think that many spider webs would build up.The decorative houseplant in the Room was covered in dust. Please install real plants instead.I was surprised by how much alcohol was stocked in the refrigerator. The labels were roughly handwritten as well, and if they are paid items,it would be better to offer just a few bottles as “recommended by the Accommodation.”Keeping it simple would be best.As this is a long-established Ryokan, many of the staff are older,and talking with them was soothing.The food was incredibly delicious—I was very satisfied.The large public bath felt so old that it honestly scared me (lol).On my way out, I suggested replacing the sauna chair to the proprietress, so when I visit again I hope it will have been replaced!I’ll come again. Introduction of the Accommodation
Tatsumi-kan, the property beloved by the artist Kiyoshi Yamashita.
There are two individuals who deeply loved Kamimaki Onsen: the "Naked General" Kiyoshi Yamashita and his mentor, Dr. Ryuzaburo Shikiba. In the 1950s, Kiyoshi visited our inn multiple times with his mentor, leaving behind numerous remarkable works created with collage, watercolor, and markers before his studies in France. The serene and nature-rich land of Kamimaki Onsen seemed to perfectly match Kiyoshi's simple and sincere personality. The large mural in our "Haniwa Bath," titled "Omine Swamp and Mount Tanigawa," is a unique masterpiece in Japan. Based on Kiyoshi's original collage, it was created using special glass in collaboration with Dr. Shikiba and art craftsman Mr. Tezuka. This work, completed with great passion despite Kiyoshi's declining eyesight, stands as one of his final masterpieces before his European studies. We hope you will enjoy and feel refreshed by Kiyoshi's heartfelt works, along with the memories of Kamimaki.
Kamimaki Onsen is a natural hot spring where water from the Tone River, melted from Mount Tanigawa, and rain or snow falling on the Sea of Japan side is warmed underground and emerges after approximately 17 years.
Warm your hands over the glowing charcoal fire and feel a sense of comfort. Enjoy casual irori-style dining with the warmth and nostalgia of irori seating or at simple wooden tables with a shichirin grill.
We offer Rooms primarily in a Japanese style so you can forget the daily hustle and spend your time as your heart desires. Please relax and enjoy your stay.
