Toyooka, located at the northern tip of Hyogo Prefecture, is one of Japan’s leading production centers for Japanese-made bags, with origins in willow basketry dating back over a thousand years. It has also long flourished as the region’s economic and cultural hub. After the 1925 Kita-Tajima Earthquake, a series of reinforced-concrete modern buildings were constructed to rebuild the town. Many still stand today, forming the “Toyooka Reconstruction Architecture Group” and conveying the strong spirit of those times. Among these landmarks, our Hotel stands out in particular. Originally built as the former Hyogo Prefectural Agricultural and Industrial Bank Toyooka Branch, it was designed by Setsu Watanabe, a master of Western-style architecture and one of Kansai’s leading architects of the era. Balancing ornate beauty with practicality, this remarkable building—rich in Renaissance and Art Deco details—has been reborn as a six-room boutique Hotel. From its striking façade and entrance to its simple yet atmospheric guest rooms, and an airy main hall featuring an open atrium where the bank counters once stood, it preserves a deep sense of history and classic charm throughout.
