Savor Iwate’s seasonal delights to your heart’s content, surrounded by nature in every season and traditional irori hearth cuisine.

Dai Onsen in Hanamaki—home of Kenji Miyazawa—is an Onsen village with a 1,200-year history, where more than a dozen natural springs bubble up. Nestled midway through Dai Onsen is “Yamayuri no Yado,” a small Accommodation with just 14 Rooms. Our owner is a chef. Captivated by Iwate’s local ingredients, he personally selects wild mountain vegetables and produce nurtured by this land, river fish, and seafood from the Sanriku coast—carefully sourcing each item with his own eyes—and serves every dish handmade to our guests. Our natural dashi is drawn with great care, using several times the usual amount of bonito flakes and Hidaka kelp without hesitation. Seasonal ingredients are slowly grilled over charcoal in the irori hearth. We cherish cuisine that can never be replicated through mass cooking—dishes possible only because we are a small Accommodation. Step through the large wooden gate and you’ll find the entrance noren swaying in the breeze, guiding you into a quiet retreat. After arrival, enjoy a cup of tea while listening to the sounds of the season. A clear stream runs alongside Yamayuri no Yado, pure and transparent as it nurtures countless forms of life. In early spring as the snow melts, its babbling brightens and birdsong echoes through the mountains. As cherry blossoms fade, delicate wildflowers bloom; in early summer, the beautiful calls of kajika frogs resonate through the valley. At night, fireflies dance above the stream to create an enchanting scene. In autumn, vivid foliage colors blanket the mountains like a painting framed by your Room window. In winter, deep snowfall wraps everything in white while flames from the irori hearth and fireplace warm you to your core. And as each season turns, we craft that time’s finest flavors into our Irori Kaiseki course. Gaze at nature, soak in Onsen waters, gather around the irori hearth and savor seasonal tastes. Through this abundant nature and our cuisine alike، Yamayuri no Yado offers you time to truly unwind.

  • Dining by the atmospheric irori hearth was wonderful in both ambiance and taste. Breakfast was not a buffet, so we were able to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. The staff were kind, and it was a comfortable Accommodation. The sink being unusually low bothered me a little, but it wasn’t too inconvenient. I was happy that the in-room bath had tiled walls that gave a nostalgic Showa-era feel. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

  • The Accommodation itself feels quite old, giving it a secluded, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere.I was a little worried because of its age, but both the rooms and the interior were very clean, and we had a comfortable stay. The free-flowing Onsen from the source also had excellent water quality and left my skin silky smooth. The meals were likely all handmade—every dish was carefully prepared with real care. Everything was truly delicious, and we were completely satisfied.Everyone at the Accommodation was very kind, making it a place we would definitely like to visit again.Thank you very much for your hospitality.
