Soak in the natural hot spring of Kitayama at a secluded Property with only six rooms, nestled in a peaceful mountain village.

A tunnel of mountain cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, autumn foliage, and clear snowy landscapes in winter. Located beyond the sea of Uozu and through the mountains, is a small property with six rooms, Ikegami.

  • I visited this Accommodation because Reviews praised the food as “delicious,” and it truly lived up to its reputation. Every dish was carefully prepared and wonderfully flavorful. The most memorable was the “Yoro-steamed eel”: beneath the eel was a dumpling-like mound of grated yam, gently infused with dashi, making it deeply comforting and delicious. The sake selection also delighted me—Katsukoma in particular brought a smile. This time I chose an affordable “Room assigned on arrival” Plan, but I was shown to a quiet, comfortable second-floor Room with a lovely view. There are two private family baths used in turn, but since the number of groups that can stay per day is limited, it never felt crowded or inconvenient. On the day we stayed, there were only three groups, so it felt especially relaxed. That said, because I had heard it was free-flowing natural spring water (kakenagashi), I may have expected more; the bath did have a slightly strong chlorine smell, which could be a matter of preference. Even so, all staff were consistently kind and attentive throughout our stay, making for an overall very pleasant experience.

  • I visited after a mountain hike. At check-in, we were offered only a cold hand towel, with no tea or sweets, and were shown to our Room. The Accommodation is small, but it felt clean throughout, including the Room, so we were able to stay comfortably in that respect. There was also complimentary beer service, but it was a bit disappointing that it was served in a cup rather than a mug or glass. The bath uses mineral spring water and has no taste or smell. I didn’t notice anything in particular while soaking, but after a while my skin felt smooth. Also, as time passed my body warmed up nicely, so it’s a good bath. As the Reviews said, the meals featured plenty of Toyama ingredients. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, but I think the dining experience would be even better with some explanation of the dishes. That said, during the meal the staff member in charge only said things like “Here you are” and “I’ll clear these,” which felt a little impersonal. I could hear another staff member serving the table behind us saying things like “Would you like more rice?” and “Would you like seconds?”, so it may depend on each person’s approach—but I wished for slightly more guest-focused service from our attendant. I was also concerned about there being cameras installed in several places; it felt somewhat like being watched. If they were placed more discreetly or with more consideration, it might feel less uncomfortable. Overall though, I think it was a good Accommodation.
