Auberge de Primavera

I arrived early and they kindly stored my luggage, and from that moment until I left, the warm and welcoming service truly touched me. The French-style Room was charming and tastefully decorated, so it’s easy to see why the Reviews are so highly rated. And the breakfast served in the Room was absolutely delicious—I was thrilled! Everything was carefully prepared, and I especially remember the oval potatoes that were hollow inside. The potage soup and salad were also excellent. I would love to stay at Primavera again for a truly relaxing getaway.

Thank you for hosting us for two nights. All the staff welcomed us warmly, and at check-in we enjoyed a welcome drink of amazake and soy milk. The Room was wonderful, the bath was spacious, and the sauna—adjustable to our preferred temperature—was very relaxing. We were able to spend a slow, luxurious time. The canelés prepared for us were also delicious. Breakfast was excellent and very filling. The menu changed each day, and both the hot and cold dishes were beautifully presented—we truly enjoyed them. We also received drink tickets, and at the lovely on-site sake bar they made us non-alcoholic options such as an amazake sorbet drink. We enjoyed hearing stories about sake as well as Karuizawa’s wildlife. Just one thing: until after 9:00 p.m. on the second day, and again from shortly after 6:00 a.m. on the third day for a while, we could continuously hear loud footsteps going back and forth (“thump thump thump…”). It echoed so much that we weren’t sure whether to mention it during our stay. The sound of spring water flowing close enough to reach from the first-floor terrace was lovely, but next time we stay I may ask about a second-floor Room type when making my Reservation. Also, it would be appreciated if hot water were available at the washbasin as well. It’s conveniently located near both the station and Old Karuizawa townscape, so if we stay in Karuizawa again, we would love to stay here next time too.
