  • The Room was spacious, and the meals were delicious—we were very satisfied. My husband especially loved the main cutlet. There were plenty of towels, so I was happy to be able to use a fresh one no matter how many times I took a bath.Since each Room type seems to be different, I’d love to stay in another Room next time.

  • It’s been a while since I last felt like writing a Review. Nasu was hotter than I expected on my first visit, but thanks to the wonderful hospitality of everyone at “Kai,” we had a very comfortable stay. Our whole family was soothed by NM’s smile when showing us to our Room, and the staff in charge of breakfast and dinner were also friendly and warmly attentive. We also tried the premium soft-serve ice cream at a nearby farm that you recommended—it was wonderfully rich and impressive! The cuisine was the most delicious we’ve had in quite some time, with flavors that truly reflected the season. Each dish was delicate, and we thoroughly enjoyed the creative touches throughout. We stayed during Obon this time, but next time we’d love to visit in early summer or autumn!Thank you very much!

Introduction of the Accommodation

What is Nasu Bettei Kai?

Exterior

<The Unique Local Spirit> Before the war, Nasu thrived as a retreat for political and business leaders who built villas near the Imperial Villa. After the war, it was developed through national policies for resettlement and cultivation, leading to the flourishing of the Onsen town during the Showa era. Nasu has witnessed these transitions up to the present day. Born and raised in Nasu, a local innkeeper who runs a Ryokan in Nasu has created "Nasu Bettei Kai," a new hub for the future of Nasu, while reflecting on the past and looking ahead. <Creating and Coexisting> A Ryokan is a unique Japanese cultural space that coexists with its surroundings, encompassing its design, cuisine, tableware, kimonos, and the way of life shaped by the seasons and the land. By adding new value to the traditional inn culture nurtured over generations and long years, it becomes a place that connects the past and the present, and a space that bridges the present with the future through creativity. <And the Cycle Continues> In the garden of Kai, there is a moss-covered "Tsukubai" (stone washbasin). This historic piece was once placed in the villa of a prominent family during the Showa era and now resides here. It has been passed down through time, from house to house, and from person to person, carrying with it history and memories. Like this Tsukubai, we inherit and carry forward the thoughts and traditions, fulfilling our role to connect them to the future.

Nasu Villa Kai and Nature

a_kai_tpcb1.jpg

Nasu Bettei Kai opened in 2007 as a new style of Ryokan, revitalizing a former bank retreat built during the Showa era. The garden, once meticulously maintained during its time as a retreat, had returned to a lush forest after years of being untouched, with the building quietly nestled within its depths. The reinforced concrete structure was renovated with a focus on traditional Japanese materials. Gradually, people began to gather in this once-deserted place, creating a hub for interaction, spreading seeds of culture, and fostering connections. We have welcomed guests since our opening with the hope that they would use this Property as if it were their own villa in Nasu— a place to heal from daily fatigue, regain energy for tomorrow, and return to everyday life refreshed. In the 2023 renovation, the essence of a local Property took shape. Amid the rich forests of the national park, the Property, people, and nature coexist with the changing seasons. We strive to provide a comfortable and balanced stay, offering hospitality through unique cuisine that can only be experienced here, sharing the history and origins of the land. The spacious and comfortable guest rooms are crafted with local materials such as soil, stone, and washi paper, while the baths in the rooms are constantly filled with Onsen water, the greatest blessing of nature. While inheriting the history and culture of the Ryokan, a collective representation of Japanese culture, we honor this land, exploring the natural essence of a local Property where "locality" becomes its unique character. We take pride in being the successors of this region, carrying the responsibility of conveying the spirit of Nasu.

Onsen and bath
Onsen and bath

The "Shin Nasu Onsen" is a clear, colorless hot spring located at an altitude of 1,300m on the eastern slope of the main peak "Chausu-dake" in the Nasu mountain range. The same quality spring water as the Nasu Imperial Villa is poured into the private baths of all rooms at "Bettei Kai," providing warmth that not only enhances skin beauty and relieves fatigue but also gently soothes the soul.

Notice from the Accommodation

  • About the Barrier-Free Facilities at Nasu Bettei Kai

Nasu Bettei Kai was transformed into a Ryokan by renovating a reinforced concrete building constructed in the Showa era.

We apologize for the fact that there are many areas where modifications could not be made, and the barrier-free environment is not perfect.

In 2023, a large-scale renovation was carried out, and ramps were installed from the parking lot to the reception, restaurant, and guest room building, making it possible to move around in a wheelchair. However, it is not possible to use a wheelchair for all movements to and within the guest rooms.

The interior of the guest rooms varies in design and layout depending on the room. There are rooms that do not require the use of stairs and rooms with fewer steps inside, so please consult with us when making a reservation.

Since the facility is not perfect, our staff will provide support.
