Approximately one hour from the city center, immerse yourself in the lush greenery of the mountains and the soothing sounds of the river at Oku Musashi's tranquil retreat.

The warmth of wood and seasonal kaiseki cuisine. A place where visitors become part of the forest and unite with nature. Located just over an hour from the city center, "Dai Matsukaku" is a property offering relaxation with the warmth of wood. The moment you step inside, the forest bathing begins.

  • I’d been wanting to stay in a dome tent, and while searching I found Omatsukaku’s “Tenku no Mori” glamping. The dome tent was larger than I imagined, with a high ceiling and plenty of space inside. Because it’s truly in the forest, the view from the tent is lush greenery and tall trees. You can hear birdsong even inside, and if you listen closely you can even hear a nearby river—an amazing location surrounded by nature. And yet, just a 2–3 minute walk away there’s a Ryokan where you can use the Onsen, and enjoy both dinner and breakfast at the Ryokan at a relaxed pace—such a luxurious experience.I’d hesitated about tents because many don’t have toilets, but here there are clean toilets and washbasins right outside the tent. There’s no need to walk along an uncovered path at night, so it felt safe even with children. The washbasin is for handwashing only, and we were told to use the water dispenser for brushing teeth, which was slightly inconvenient—but it also made me realize that if I call this “inconvenient,” camping would definitely not be for me (laugh).Since it’s in nature, the website notes that insects may get in—and as expected for a tent in the forest, there are some bugs. Apparently stink bugs can show up sometimes (they even provide tape), but we didn’t encounter any. I’m not good with insects myself, but I was fine. If you absolutely can’t handle even small bugs under any circumstances, this might not be for you.We were also able to use the Accommodation guests’ lounge and library. They had drinks such as coffee and tea, plus small snacks and ice cream—an incredibly comfortable space. If you like beer, unlimited beer in the lounge is hard to resist. The library also has lots of manga; my son loved it so much he didn’t want to leave. For me too, it was refreshing to find books I wouldn’t normally pick up—I really enjoyed reading. The Onsen private bath (rock bath) and public bath aren’t huge, but they were very clean and relaxing. From the large glass window in the public bath you can see greenery all around—it felt wonderful.Dinner menus change every two months, so I’d love to visit again in another season. Breakfast was especially delicious: gentle Japanese-style dishes that truly matched their phrase “a kind breakfast for your just-awakened body.” The homemade tofu, chirimen-jako (dried baby sardines), and steamed vegetables were particularly tasty—I felt happy from first thing in the morning. Both adults and children were completely satisfied—it was an excellent stay overall. This is an Accommodation I’d definitely love to visit again.

  • We stayed overnight while visiting Lake Miyazawa from Hanno. They offered a pick-up service to the station, which was great since taxis can be quite expensive. It’s a wonderful place to relax. We didn’t have much time for a walk around the area, but you might feel that refreshing “forest air” vibe in the valley (just the atmosphere!).Everyone—the front desk staff, attendants, and the proprietress—was polite and friendly, which made us very satisfied. The meals were delicious, and they were very accommodating with our child’s allergies. It was a rare chance for us to travel, and we had a great time. The bath is simple but thoughtfully arranged down to the details. I was especially happy to enjoy a morning bath for the first time in a while. We’d love to drop by again.Thank you very much!
