A historic building with over 280 years of history, located in the heart of the charming Bikan Historical Quarter.

A traditional Japanese Ryokan, "Ryokan Tsurugata," where you can fully immerse yourself in the historic charm of Kurashiki. Located in the heart of the Bikan Historical Quarter, this distinguished Ryokan boasts a history spanning approximately 280 years. Despite its modest size, it retains traces of its prosperous past in every corner. Enjoy exquisite dishes prepared by our head chef using fresh seafood from Seto Inland Sea and local ingredients, served in the comfort of your Room. An evening stroll through the serene Bikan Historical Quarter after dinner is also highly recommended.

  • I stayed for one night with a friend. They kindly stored our luggage before check-in and recommended nearby shops. The Room and bath were very clean, and we were able to relax. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we were very satisfied. Above all, everyone at the Accommodation was kind, making it a comfortable place to stay. They even lent us lanterns for an evening walk and showed us fireflies by the riverside next to the Accommodation. It made for a wonderful trip, and we are truly grateful to everyone there. If I have the chance to visit Kurashiki again, my friend and I would definitely like to stay here again.

  • This is a wonderful Accommodation where you can enjoy delicious food in a historic building.First of all, the location is excellent. Dinner was great—the food and drinks were both delicious, and I especially loved the white peach liqueur. When I asked about the brand, they even looked up the price and where I could buy it nearby. As for the dishes, the squid sakura-jelly appetizer and sea bream chazuke were particularly outstanding. At night, we borrowed lanterns for an evening stroll. The Bikan Historical Quarter at night was beautiful as expected, but a staff member also told us where we might see fireflies—and we were lucky enough to spot some.Breakfast was also delicious, and they prepared tickets for the Ohara Museum of Art at reception. The ticket booth for riverboat rides was close as well, so we were able to do everything we wanted to do in Kurashiki. As someone with allergies, I had some runny nose after the futon was laid out, and I found the bath fairly standard—so I deducted a point—but overall it was a lovely Accommodation that left me very satisfied. The staff’s service in particular was excellent. Thank you very much.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Exterior

A historic culinary Ryokan located in the heart of the Bikan District.

Located in the heart of Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, Ryokan "Tsurugata" is a traditional inn utilizing a merchant house built during the era of Tokugawa Yoshimune, the 8th Shogun (1744). Alongside important cultural properties such as Ohara House and Ohashi House, it is one of Kurashiki's oldest and most historically significant buildings, preserving the dignified architecture of an Edo-period townhouse with its two-story zushi-style design. The courtyard features a pine tree over 400 years old, the oldest in Kurashiki, complemented by stone lanterns and Kitayama cedar trees that create a serene atmosphere. Historical pillars and floors have been preserved as much as possible, offering a tranquil ambiance that makes you forget the bustling world outside.
