Established over 800 years ago, a historic Property featuring Kaga's renowned hot springs and cuisine loved by Rosanjin.
Though the surface of the water changes from moment to moment, the hot spring continues to flow abundantly beyond time. Its presence recalls Basho’s teaching of “Fueki Ryuko”—that the unchanging and the ever-changing share the same source. Since receiving our charge from Gen’emon Araya, head steward of the hot spring under the Maeda family of the former Daishoji Domain in Kaga, we have carried forward—day by day in our work—the essence of what must remain unchanged and what should evolve. This is the spirit of hospitality our Accommodation hopes to nurture for generations to come.
The bath and hot spring were beautifully maintained, and we appreciated the thoughtful hospitality, including wet chopsticks, as well as the delicious seasonal cuisine. Thanks to the attentive service from all the staff, we had a very comfortable stay.It was our first visit in a while, and everything—the room setup, the meals, and the service from all the staff—had been improved even further. It has become an even more wonderful place to stay.
良三さん 10/9/2026We enjoyed a relaxing two-night stay on October 9 and 10. The food was outstanding, though the portions could be a little smaller. The staff were pleasant and attentive, and it was especially wonderful to see the proprietress personally present—her warm hospitality made our stay truly memorable. Once again, I feel this is the best ryokan in Japan. We also requested a massage; it was provided by a young male therapist, and his work was excellent—I was amazed at how completely my fatigue melted away. I love massages, but it’s rare to feel this refreshed.In any case, this is an exceptional inn.

Yamashiro Onsen is a rare and precious hot spring, fed by the blessings of sacred Mt. Hakusan and bubbling up from just a few dozen meters underground—highly unusual even across The whole country. Our Accommodation boasts the largest volume in Yamashiro, with 540 koku per day (about 100,000 liters; 1 koku = 180 liters). Its water quality also won a Gold Prize at the International Mineral Springs Exposition held in Germany during the Taisho era, earning high acclaim worldwide.
Our Accommodation is located in the heart of the Onsen town, yet once inside, it feels like a secluded mountain retreat in the city. Relax in tranquility while enjoying the seasonal beauty of our garden—fresh spring greenery, autumn foliage, and snowy winter scenery—originally created during the Kan’ei era.
Kaga/Yamashiro is a richly blessed area surrounded by nature on all sides—the Sea of Japan, the Kaga Plain, and the foothills of Mt. Hakusan. At our Accommodation, we strive to let these exceptional local ingredients shine, serving them simply without overworking or excessive embellishment. We present our dishes in carefully selected vessels chosen by the proprietor, including works by local Kutani ware and Yamanaka lacquer artists, reproductions associated with the artist Kitaoji Rosanjin, and treasured antique pieces passed down through generations.
The wooden detached guesthouse in the garden, built in the early Meiji period, was once cherished by members of the Imperial Family, including the Arisugawa-no-miya and Komatsu-no-miya households. Now, more than 100 years later, it has been renovated while preserving its original character, creating an irreplaceable atmosphere shaped by the passage of time.
