A secluded seven-room retreat in historic Esashi, where you can enjoy free-flowing hot spring baths and fine dining.
At Ryotei Murakami, Esashi, a town with the oldest history in Hokkaido, you can enjoy Onsen from natural sources, meals utilizing rich ingredients, and relaxing time in 7 independent guest rooms. The area around the Property includes the Sea of Japan, Kamome Island, the Kaiyomaru ship, the marina, and the historic street, where you can encounter nature and history.
The cuisine was outstanding and truly moving. Each dish reflected careful selection of fresh local ingredients and meticulous preparation. Given the location, I expected excellent seafood, but the vegetables were beyond anything I imagined. This Accommodation is well worth going out of your way for.
ふじみのおじさん 7/16/2026My first visit to Esashi through the hometown tax donation program. A stylish, modern property along the coast. It was a bit disappointing that the TV was small and the Wi-Fi was weak, but everything else was flawless. First of all, both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Dinner featured mainly local ingredients—salmon roe, sea urchin, abalone, and snow crab—and to top it off, we could also enjoy lamb raised on their own farm. The herring in particular was delicious! Drinks were unlimited refills except for a few items. Breakfast was also perfectly portioned and very tasty. I felt the head chef is truly exceptional. When we left, someone who seemed to be the owner came out of their way to see us off; it was a kind and warm Ryokan until the very end. A place that definitely makes you want to come back again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

On April 28, 2017, the story titled "May in Esashi is Unparalleled Even in Edo - A Town Breathing with the Prosperity of Herring" was designated as a "Japan Heritage." In the fiscal year 2017, there were 79 story applications from The whole country, and among them, 17 stories, including Esashi Town, were recognized. This was the first designation in Hokkaido. *What is Japan Heritage...* Japan Heritage is a system that designates stories conveying the culture and traditions of our country through the historical charm and characteristics of a region as "Japan Heritage." It supports initiatives to comprehensively utilize various tangible and intangible cultural properties that are essential to narrating these stories.

Esashi Town, the first in Hokkaido to be recognized as a 'Japan Heritage' - Former Hiyama-Nishi District Office.

Red snow crab
The privately-owned farm "Takumi Farm" was established by the owner approximately 35 years ago. The Suffolk lamb raised on the farm is free of odor, has a refined taste, and is especially exquisite from January to March when its flavor becomes richer. We strive to provide peace of mind and safety through food, along with carefully cultivated vegetables and wild plants, to bring joy to as many customers as possible.

The owner personally manages the direct-operated farm "Takumi Farm," where food waste from the Property is utilized to grow vegetables. Additionally, handmade feed and hay are used to raise sheep (Suffolk breed) and free-range chickens. The carefully nurtured sheep, free-range chickens, eggs, vegetables, and wild plants are prepared and served at the Property as safe and reliable ingredients. To create an eco-friendly and sustainable Property, heating is powered by Onsen heat instead of kerosene, gas, or electricity, which is also utilized for underfloor heating within the building and snow melting in the parking lot (road heating). Without the need for garbage collection trucks, the Property embodies an environmentally conscious and ideal vision for a wonderful future.

Exclusive to only 7 Rooms guests - A special space and time
The land of Esashi, famous for Esashi Oiwake, has long been blessed by the "bounty of the sea" brought by herring fishing. The phenomenon where herrings in their spawning season gather in large schools in shallow waters to spawn, turning the sea a milky white, is called "Kuki." In this historic town of Esashi, there is a travel garden named after "Kuki." Beyond the stone walls lies an extraordinary space away from the everyday. There, a "special time" is reserved exclusively for guests of the seven Rooms. At Kuki, there are no hostesses or attendants. The hospitality is provided by butlers dedicated to the seven Rooms. From the moment you arrive at Kuki, we strive to offer exceptional hospitality, ensuring that we understand and cater to the unique desires of each guest.

"During your stay here, we hope you will feel something truly special. The architectural design of Kurae is by the talented architect Makoto Nakayama. It features seven spacious single-story Rooms with deck terraces, designed for relaxation and comfort. Each Room is arranged like a detached villa, surrounded by a garden, offering a private and serene atmosphere. The stone-paved garden is inspired by the sea, with sculptures by internationally renowned sculptor Kan Yasuda, creating an extraordinary space. Additionally, the loungewear provided is designed by Junko Koshino, ensuring your comfort during your stay. Please enjoy the extraordinary experience at Kurae to your heart's content."
