A new encounter, a single story. Kanbayashi Hotel Senjukaku. The story began with an encounter. It was in 1929 (Showa 4) when the first president of Nagano Electric Railway, Tohei Kozu, met Lieutenant Helseth from Norway. This meeting in Kanbayashi brought together European and Japanese cultures, creating an entirely new culture or space. It was a groundbreaking event where the culture of a Western-style Hotel was incorporated into a traditional Japanese-style Ryokan for the first time. Furthermore, this encounter became the prologue to the development of Kanbayashi Onsen and Shiga Kogen, now renowned as one of Japan's leading international resorts.

    Beautiful scenery, a resort-like atmosphere throughout the property, and carefully prepared seasonal dishes. The service was attentive, courteous, and truly pleasant. The cool natural air and enjoyable walks made me very glad I visited. Breakfast was also brought to our table, allowing us to relax and enjoy the meal at ease. I appreciated the Shuttle Service from Yudanaka Station, and taking a short break in the lounge was a wonderful time as well. Although it was a trip during the heat, I felt refreshed and ready to get through summer with renewed energy.\nI will be turning 77 this year. I hope to continue enjoying wonderful trips. I would like to dress up and enjoy stays at Resort Hotels and Ryokans as well.

  • Late Autumn in Northern Nagano

    This time, we enjoyed a relaxing stay with IKYU's value Plan, featuring a spacious Room with Onsen and private dining at a traditional restaurant. The final dish of matsutake mushroom dobin-mushi was delightful, showcasing heartfelt cuisine. The piano and flute lobby concert brought back memories with its beautiful melodies, creating a wonderful experience. Blessed with good weather, we admired the snowy mountains and viewed apple orchards, distant ranges, and the Chikuma River from the Nagaden express private compartment while reminiscing about Shimazaki Toson’s poetry in lively conversation. Staying at such excellent Accommodation allowed us to savor the lingering charm of our trip. Thanks to Diamond Member services, we also received house wine as a gift before leaving. It was truly a lovely late autumn journey.
