The buildings are crafted in the pure Japanese sukiya style, showcasing the finest of Japanese architecture in harmony with nature.
I visited again for the first time in 10 years, and the corridor leading from the lobby to the guest rooms and the beautiful garden welcomed me just as beautifully as ever. The relaxing room and the wonderful cuisine that brings out the best of its ingredients were just as excellent. I would definitely like to visit again.
たかしくにこ 6/25/2026As I was traveling with my mother, who is unsteady on her feet and has a poor sense of direction, we chose a Room with an open-air bath. Because it was a bath in the Room, she could enjoy the Onsen with peace of mind, and it was absolutely the right choice. The guest Room was converted from a tea room and is completely detached, so we were able to relax at our own pace. It was sunny, but the sunlight filtered onto the veranda just perfectly; you can lie down there and enjoy the refreshing air. Both dinner and breakfast are so elaborate that it feels wasteful to leave anything behind, so it’s probably best not to have lunch. The cakes at the shop are delicious—I’d almost like to order them for delivery.

Saryo Soen is built in the traditional Sukiya style. Of our 26 guest rooms, 9 feature a private open-air bath. Set on an 8,000-tsubo estate, our Japanese garden offers scenery like a living Japanese painting, changing with the seasons and time of day. We invite you to enjoy a sense of nostalgic relaxation.
In Akiu Onsen, a renowned hot-spring retreat long celebrated for its healing properties, our Ryokan stands along the Natori River gorge near Sendai. “We want to create a true Japanese Ryokan”—that has always been our wish. A garden of beauty that lets you feel the breeze, colors, and fragrance; architecture that preserves tradition; and Japanese cuisine that welcomes you with seasonal ingredients. A Ryokan where these three come together to offer a deeply fulfilling day—this is Saryo Soen.
Dining
For the Main Building Japanese-style Rooms, dinner and breakfast are served at the dining area; only detached Rooms with an open-air bath offer in-Room dining. In the evening, enjoy a colorful kaiseki meal featuring the flavors of Michinoku, blessed with both seafood and mountain delicacies, infused with seasonal aromas. Dishes made with Sanriku black abalone are especially popular. In the morning, savor Japanese favorites including our signature yudofu (hot tofu).
