Shodoshima International Hotel

The Room was spacious and had a great ocean view.The meals were served in just the right portions, and every fish dish was delicious.Breakfast venues are often crowded,but here there was plenty of space,so we could dine comfortably in a relaxed, calm atmosphere.We would love to stay again.

My spouse and I (both in our 50s) stayed with our 18-year-old son (3 guests total) in the Designer Room “Angel Road View” with the Premium Kaiseki Plan. Some areas showed their age, but both the Room and the bathroom were kept very clean. We also appreciated the handwritten notes with staff names from housekeeping and the team who came to lay out the futons—it conveyed sincerity and a strong sense of responsibility.The bed seemed to be a Simmons, and it was very comfortable. One person slept on a futon (my husband), but he felt it was too thin and could feel the floor, which was disappointing. We would have liked a bit more attention to the futon quality as well.The indoor bath in the large public bath was too hot for me to use, but the open-air bath was at a comfortable temperature with a great view. If anything, we noticed what looked like black mold on part of the indoor bath ceiling. The cold olive tea and bite-sized ice cream after bathing were a nice touch.Dinner had just the right number of dishes and portion size—especially enjoyable were the teppanyaki olive-fed beef and grilled dancing abalone. The conger eel was slightly tough, but everything was carefully prepared and delicious overall. The soy sauce tasting comparison was also unique. Breakfast was buffet-style, and having rice balls made in front of us with our choice of fillings was excellent.Everyone on staff—from reception to the shop—was kind, and they greeted us pleasantly whenever we passed them in the Accommodation. Even as we headed to check out, including housekeeping staff greeted us with smiles, allowing us to leave feeling great.Angel Road seen from our Room was wonderful, making for a very comfortable stay. As for how small some areas are—such as parts of unit bathrooms or elevators—that may be unavoidable given this is an established Hotel; however, considering everything overall—the meals and especially how welcoming all staff were—we were very satisfied with this Accommodation. This was our first visit to Shodoshima, and if we have another opportunity, we will definitely choose this Accommodation again. Thank you for two wonderful days.
