I made a Reservation because the Accommodation offered an Italian dinner, a sand bath, and spacious Rooms with great views. The Room was large, had a wonderful view, and felt very clean. I also appreciated that the drinks in the refrigerator were free, including beer. There was a sand bath within the Facility, as well as a large public bath, plus one more Onsen area with indoor baths only. Inside the building there was so much to see—such as a shochu dojo, artworks, and exhibits about notable historical figures from Kagoshima—that we didn’t have enough time to take it all in. The garden was also vast and perfect for a walk. The Italian dinner was at a restaurant inside Denshokan; both the atmosphere and the food were excellent. Above all, every staff member was wonderful—this was truly an outstanding Accommodation. I would definitely like to stay again when I visit Ibusuki. Thank you very much for your hospitality. As an aside, I learned that this is also the venue for the Ryuo title match in shogi, which made me even more excited—I was moved to see where Sota Fujii sat and played.
Although the entire Facility has been renovated, some areas still feel dated; however, the staff were attentive and the Accommodation was impeccably clean, making our stay very comfortable.This trip was with two elderly couples, but it is an Accommodation we would love to visit again with three generations of our family, including our grandchildren.

Ibusuki’s famous Sand Bath Onsen
At Ibusuki Hakusuikan’s sand-steaming Onsen, the menu changes every month. This is so that our guests can enjoy seasonal flavors throughout the year. Please savor our carefully prepared dishes to your heart’s content.
The annex Room offers a spacious, relaxing retreat with views of the pine garden and the shimmering blue sea.
Satsuma Denshokan
Within this building, the Satsuma Denshokan—an expression of Japan’s traditional beauty and the spirit of Satsuma—we exhibit an outstanding collection of approximately 300 historic works of art. Inspired by the form of Byodo-in’s Phoenix Hall, the architecture invites you to experience timeless Japanese design and reflect on Satsuma’s history and the flow of time from past to present and into the future. Here, you can engage all five senses with “light,” “water,” “sound,” “fragrance,” and “wind” that breathe life into this place.
In response to rising costs, the basic fees for the indoor sand Onsen will change starting October 1, 2024.
